Sunsail F40!

August 23, 2010

The new Sunsail F40

Sunsail launched Sunsail Racing at Cowes Week, a new product focusing on making yacht racing more accessible to anyone. To support the new concept they’ve announced replacement of the ageing Sunfast 37’s with a fleet of  no less than 42 Sunsail F40’s next year. Here’s a sneak preview of the new forty-one footer. This is a development of the popular Beneteau 40.7 familiar to many.

These are significantly larger and more powerful craft than we are used to. Main sheets controlled by winches, so we shall need to learn new techniques for a controlled gybe. More length at the stern, bigger cock pit and better planing ability. Should do 7-8 knots upwind and they just take off with spinnaker downwind. Most important of all, they have greater drinks carrying capacity and party boat characteristics!

So now we know! That means our next HOEOCA Racesail, Sunsail Regatta 8 , 15-17 October will be our last chance to sail the Sunfast 37’s. Nostalgia will rule the waves!
